Renowned for revolutionizing the art and science of base stealing, he retired holding the modern records for steals in a career (938) and single season (118). Was the 14th member of baseball's 3,000 hit club and second Redbird to reach that milestone. His acquisition via trade in June 1964 helped turn an 8th-place team into World Champions. An exceptional postseason performer, he hit .391 in 21 World Series games in 1964, 1967 and 1968. First player to hit 20 home runs and steal 50 bases in a season.
