Whether on a bracing winter's night or a sultry summer's eve, gathering around a fire is one of the oldest and most primal of human rituals. Though we build bonfires these days more for recreation than for survival, there's no question that an affinity for "nature's television" is ingrained within us, and we are drawn like moths to its flame. The crackle of fresh wood, the spark of embers, the laughter of children, the heat on hands and faces--these sights, sounds, and sensations have brought comfort and warmth to the human community for tens of thousands of years. The next time you go to the beach, do yourself a favor and have a bonfire. In Florida, fires on the beach usually require a special permit, but in many towns you can arrange for a service to come to the beach, build a fire to code, and maintain it for you. In Rosemary Beach on the Florida panhandle, Sea Oats Beach Service are the folks to call. Here, firestarter extraordianaire Ross Swendrowski gets a flame on under the light of the full moon. It don't get no better than this. Photo by @chrisbickford. #LoveFL #FloridaWild #bonfire @ShareaLittleSunshine @VisitFlorida #onassignment @natgeocreative
