In 1983 we became the first facility to hatch a #California #condor. When it was discovered in 1987 that there were only 22 birds left in existence, we embarked on an intensive recovery program, with the help of key partners, to bring the critically #endangered bird back from the brink of extinction. We're proud to report that there are now over 400 condors in the world, with over half of them flying free in the wild. The species still has a long road to recovery, but we're proud of the strides made to save North America's largest #bird. #EndExtinction #sandiegozoo
