Kitty Heaven has gained a new angel. ?? Many of you grew to know & love Mojo through our posts so we wanted to share with you that very unexpectedly Mojo was taken from us just after midnight this morning. Mojo & Venus both were rescued by us the same year just months apart in 2009. He was around a year old and she was just a couple months old. They grew fond of each other quickly & have always been close. What we can tell you factually as we don't have the technical terms yet is that last night we noticed he had a deep but short/labored breathing pattern. We took him to the emergency clinic immediately. His O2 saturation was 71 & he started to breath with an open mouth. He was put in an oxygen chamber where he was stabilized enough to get an X-Ray. His insides were full of fluid, had an enlarged heart, fluid around the heart itself also & the prognosis was that his condition (heart related) was beyond being able to save him. When he was brought to us so we could hold him as he was humanely put to rest he had only been out of the oxygen chamber for a few moments & he started gasping & started to die right there so the solution was injected into his IV immediately so he could go in peace surrounded by love. It was a much quicker goodbye than we had hoped for but that is how quickly this condition went from "something isn't right" to lethal. I've said it before & I want to reiterate. Please, if you notice anything change about your cat's behavior DO NOT WAIT...get them to a vet ASAP! In our case we did catch it early & took immediate action but it wouldn't have made a difference in his case as his condition was inoperable. If we hadn't taken him when we did he would've died overnight alone while we slept. However, often times you CAN catch treatable conditions if you seek medical attention quickly. I wish his was treatable because we would've done whatever was necessary to save him. It was so hard to say goodbye! Mojo we love & miss you so much! We hope that sharing your story will help someone else's pet get early detection as more people become aware of how important it is to watch for behavior changes and act quickly. You will live 4ever in our hearts!
