Another fall brings another hibernation season for grizzly bears in Alaska. These bears can hibernate anywhere from 5-8 months. Before this period, they can eat 90 pounds of food a day (gaining 3 pounds in the process). This mother was with her cubs waiting for other bears to leave a stream so they could get some salmon. When the salmon are plenty, the bears don't even bother with the entire fish, focussing instead on the protein rich head, brain and eggs to prepare for the winter.
