There's a fair amount of criticism of gorgeous photos of abandoned Detroit as exploitative decay-porn or ruin-porn. But whatever you think of the overarching political/cultural issues, it's still shocking to be here and see buildings like this everywhere. This one is right next to the Magic Stick, where we're playing tonight. If you're like me and you think the value of ogling the industrial disintegration, both educationally and aesthetically, outweighs the negative stuff of spectatorship, etc, then out "The Ruins of Detroit" by Yves Marchand & Romain Meffre. It's gorgeous and harrowing. Though I'm sure Guy Debord wants us to hate it. #ohgodsomehowiwoundupbackuncollegetoday
