Photo by @chrisbickford. High atop Bencorr, one of the Twelve Bens of Connemara in western Ireland, a hiker looks across Glen Coaghan to the peaks on the other side. The glen is surrounded by a the horseshoe ridge of mountains which is a popular walk for serious hikers. At the mid-point of the horseshoe is a pass, which leads to another glen, Glen Edineach. This pass, and the ridge it cuts through, form the traditional dividing line between southern Connemara and what is known as "Joyce Country". The runoff from the six mountains all converge in a small river that meanders through the bog and pasture of the Glen Coaghan. This is a challenging hike, but the views are spectacular.
