Once they are separated from the #glacier and drifting in open sea, icebergs die a slow inevitable death. Some wash up on beaches, only to get hammered by waves until they are small enough to put in your cocktail. The larger ones often drift long distances, and can sometimes be seen in the Azores (way south of #Greenland). One popular, but nearly impossible to prove, theory is that the #iceberg that sank the Titanic came from this Sermeq Kujalleq glacier, which produces the tremendous amount of Icebergs in the Illulissat Icefjord #UNESCO World Heritage Site. Given its location and the extreme amount of ice it produces, there's a better than fair chance it could be the culprit. What do you think? Photo by @magnumji
