The Sumatran Tiger is a rare and critically endangered subspecies of Tiger from the Island of Sumatra. In 2008 the population was estimated between 441-679, with poaching and endangered habitat as the two largest concerns. These tigers are the only surviving members of the Sunda Island group, which included the extinct Bali and Javan tigers. As #AlfredRusselWallace and #Darwin explained island bio evaluation is at work in these isolated populations. #ARW also predicted that many of the animals on or near the #WallaceLine would someday be endangered.
