Yesterday I read a blog post by GB Bouldering Team member Michaela Tracy. The topic of her writing the Womens Climbing Symposium. This is an event that I have been organising for four years now with my good friend Steph. We started the event with the aim to connect women in climbing, inspire women in climbing and develop climbing for women. We have had the pleasure to work with some incredible people and provide a full, exciting and informative day every year. The reason I am involved with this event is simple. I want people to enjoy what they do. I have the opportunity to help people have a better experience in our sport. Every year I get excited, nervous and also quite stressed about the event. At times I question what I am doing, if it’s going to work, if people will enjoy the day etc... Every year the event comes to an end and I am filled with satisfaction and happiness. To see so many female climbers together embracing the sport we love is overwhelming. I am honoured to be part of this event. I would like to thank Michaela for reminding me of this. We have had some negativity along the way but the WCS is stronger than ever and it means a lot to know that it is appreciated and supported! The woman in the photograph is Angela Soper. One of our headline talks from 2013. Angela spoke about the 50 years that she has spent in the climbing world and the development that she has seen. I find this lady incredibly inspirational. I left the WCS13 inspired. Tickets for WCS14 here: http://www.womensclimbingsymposium.com/#!tickets/c1547 To find out more about our 2014 event please check out our website & Facebook page.
