This is a microscopic view of pollen stuck in the fibers of a cotton shirt. All pollen looks different, so its shape and color indicate the species it came from. Pollen can be used to track the origin of counterfeit drugs, or even to solve crimes. “Murder suspects have been tracked using their clothing,” says Jonathan Drori. “You can tell where that piece of clothing has been recently, and then send in dogs.” Check out his #TEDTalk at on.ted.com/hiddenpollen
