Alligators are seen eating Pond Apples (or Custard Apples) during the summer in Everglades National Park, especially as they plop into the water. While summer rains replenish water supplies and bring plants back to life in the Everglades, it's a tough time for alligators. As fish, turtles and wading birds follow increasing water and spread out across the Glades, food becomes scarce for alligators. Photo: National Park Service
