Bayram Ilki pours water onto the grave of his son Şaban, oblivious to the many other coal miners being buried simultaneously around him at Soma Cemetary. At least 282 miners died as a result of an electrical fire last Tuesday, making it the worst mining disaster in Turkish history. Şaban's son and daughter did not come to the funeral, where organizers urged mourners to hurry up and make way for more victims who needed to be buried.
