Kissing the high tide line: Photo @pedromcbride (Pete McBride) The first descent of the #ColoradoRiver Delta by Stand up paddle board - is complete! Thanks to the recent pulse flow, the river's fresh water has once again connected to the Sea of Cortez - via a trickle. Having walked this delta years ago without water for @ナショナルジオグラフィック, I'm amazed I'd see this day.
Our 92-mile paddle, bushwhack, bog-slog had long moments of breathtaking beauty punctuated with desperate hours of belly crawling through mesquite thorns thickets, 107-degree heat, swarms of infuriated mosquitos and nighttime stealth maneuvers to dodge drug traffickers. Call it an insane, maybe foolish mission - sure -- but our journey symbolized that if two countries work together, with scores of NGOs pushing the charge - we can connect the "American Nile" back to the sea again - starting with a trickle.
