Photo by @tylermetcalfe. Though less than 5 percent of the roughly two million acres of California's virgin redwood forest remains, visitors are still able to walk amongst a few remaining 1,500-year-old giants thanks in part to those who have worked hard to preserve and understand these mythical trees. It is important now that we focus on protecting, celebrating, and growing the forests we have managed to save."The battle to save the redwoods has already been fought, and look, we're left with table scraps. The challenge now is understanding how to improve management on the 95 percent of the redwood landscape that's just starting to grow." -- Steve Sillett, forest scientist at Humboldt State University.
