Photo by @gordonwiltsie I am honored that this image of the moon rising over Mount Ama Dablam is one of a series of pictures by ten photographers who have donated beautiful prints for a ONE WEEK FLASH FUNDRAISER to benefit the families of Sherpas who were killed in the recent avalanche disaster on Mount Everest - the worst in the mountain's history. Today is Day Three of the sale. Signed prints of any of these are available at www.sherpafund.bigcartel.com and 50% of all proceeds will be distributed directly to families in need via already-existing funds established by the Alex Lowe Charitable Foundation (ALCF) and the American Himalayan Foundation (AHF.) The other half will go to long-term community assistance, including the Khumbu Climbing Center operated by ALCF and Everest ER, a clinic at base camp funded by AHF. Ever since I first visited the Khumbu region in 1974 and subsequently returned many times, the inspiration I have received from the remarkable Sherpa people has had a profound impact upon the person that I have become, and I know that many others would say the same. I hope that you can support this effort. Many thanks to Aaron Huey (@argonautphoto), Jenni Lowe from the ALCF, National Geographic and Outside Magazine for help putting the site together. Other photographers include Jimmy Chin, James Balog, Cory Richards, Renan Ozturk, Teru Kuwayama, Pete McBride, Andy Bardo, Robb Kendrick, and Max Lowe.
