During the Rwandan genocide of 1994 thousands took refuge in the church but very few survived the massacre. Witnesses said that the priest in charge of the church armed himself and helped Hutu militias take people away to be murdered. This April, Rwanda will observe the 20th anniversary of the genocide, which left nearly a million slaughtered in 100 days. On assignment for National Geographic Magazine.
