#wwbchristmascontest3rdround finalist @rhrichardson about her nutcracker : The Nutcracker has become such an integral part of the holidays for me ever since I started dancing. I can't imagine a Christmas time without getting to perform onstage and listening to Tchaikovsky's music. I've loved every role I've gotten to perform, from my first party child performance to the sugar plum fairy and all the divertissements in between. The countless nutcracker performances have really given me a chance to develop my love for an ability to perform. Although I have always loved ballet, at first I really struggled with being able to smile onstage and enjoy performing. Slowly but surely I was able to grow out of my stage fright and recognize how much I loved to be onstage. A large part of that realization came from watching others on stage, and understanding how much of a difference it makes when someone has wonderful stage presence. It sounds cliché, but allowing the audience to experience your emotions and show them how much you love dancing makes the performance a hundred times better than it ever could be with only pristine technique. Also, despite my countless year of performing in the nutcracker, I had never danced in the snow scene or waltz of the flowers, until this year in American Ballet Theater's nutcracker. I'm so grateful that my first time performing both of these parts got to be alongside such amazing dancers, and it has been amazing getting to watch their principals perform from backstage every night.
