For nearly 20 years, artists Joana Hadjithomas and Khalil Joreige have collaborated on works that center around their home country, Lebanon. Many of these works focus on the Lebanese Civil War, while questioning the very nature of images and documentation. Hadjithomas and Joreige’s 2003 video, Lasting Images, is included in the exhibition of the same name now on view at the Guggenheim. Based on a Super 8 film made by Joreige’s uncle before he, like thousands of other Lebanese during the war, was abducted, the video combines abstract forms with fleeting images of everyday life.
