On this 50th anniversary of John F. Kennedy's assassination, we remember James Rosenquist's "President Elect" (1960–61/1964) from our 2003 Rosenquist retrospective at the Guggenheim. The painting includes a portrait of John F. Kennedy borrowed from a 1960 presidential campaign poster. Rosenquist juxtaposed this portrait with images of middle-class wealth and consumerism—advertisements from Life magazine.
