On the northern shores of Fakarava's inner lagoon, one of 78 atolls in the #FrenchPolynesian Tuamotu Archipelago, my late friend Willie Williams paddles above a manta ray with a 15-foot wingspan, performing back flips to consume plankton. A team of us took ocean kayaks throughout many of these remote and wild atolls to see first hand this #SouthPacific world, just a few feet above the ocean, and how it is challenged by a changing climate and #risingseas. Sadly, Willie passed away to #cancer not long after this photo was taken. I will fondly remember him performing this manta dance on that remote body of water. #underwater #latergram #splitsecond #RIP #memoryofafriend
