Selected edits from @chrisbickford on assignment in the Cayman Islands for NatGeoTraveler, November 2012. This is Captain Charger of the Jolly Roger, a 2/3 replica of Christoper Columbus's Nina. The Jolly operates tours out of George Town on Grand Cayman Island. When I first asked him his name, he said, in a thick, slow Jamaican accent, "Chah-jah". I repeated back to him "Jah Jah?" thinking it was some kind of Rastafarian name. The rest of the crew started cracking up. "Chah-jah", he said... Then I thought maybe it was a Star Wars thing..."Jar Jar?" I said. He repeated, looking out at the harbor, "Chah-jah." The crew were having conniptions by this point. One of them pointed to a sign on the wall that said "Captain Charger"... "Ah," I said, "Chah-jah". The guys were still laughing. "What?" I said. "Nothin', mon," the mate answered. "It's just funny to hear you say it." #latergram #grandcayman #georgetown #jollyroger
