Leptis Magna, Libya, was the hometown of Roman emperor Septimus Severus. The ruins feature a well-preserved theater, market square, forum with attached basilica, heated baths, and a large ocean port. Just to the east along the coast is a large amphitheater and hippodrome. Much of the site, and most of the associated ruins along the coast, are yet to be excavated.
