Monks leaving the gompa for lunch. @maxwellsilver and me went to visit Bouda, the most venerated Buddhist stupa in the Kathmandu valley, and we met up with a bunch of friends from Namche and the Khumbu. Dip Lama mentioned a puja for the the late Mr. Park of Korea. Two years ago he perished on the south face of Annapurna. His wife and two sons came to Bouda to preform a puja in his honor. The Sherpas who worked with him were in attendance. Even though I barely knew Mr Park, we travelled in similar circles and climbed on the same peaks. Meeting his widow and his two sons, 22 and 17, reminded me of how dangerous Himalayan climbing is an the cost of loss to the immediate family. If you are a climber - be safe out there. #lifeisariver
