The monthslong holdout began back in February over a policy that granted time off and occasional travel reimbursement to service members seeking abortions or fertility care. Tuberville’s efforts have drawn criticism from his Senate colleagues on both sides of the aisle, with some arguing that he is hamstringing the US military by sending a message of disarray and unreadiness to enemies. “Tommy Tuberville shouldn’t be allowed to hold up promotions, because he doesn’t think that the military should allow women to go and get abortions,” Air Force veteran Carrie Frail tells VF. “That’s what it’s really all about.
