The Writers Guild of America’s 148-day strike was an unprecedented show of solidarity for one of Hollywood’s most powerful unions. But the ink had yet to dry on its new contract when the guild’s careful alliances ruptured over leaders’ decision to remain silent about the Hamas attack on Israel.
Some writers are furious that their guild hasn’t made a formal statement condemning Hamas. Other members believe it’s not their place: “As storytellers, the narratives we craft matter, and the language we use has consequences.”
