His famous photobook, 'American Surfaces' contains a series of 312 colour landscape-format photographs showing banal scenes in the US. He made several road trips across the country, photographing streets and shop fronts, car parks and gas stations, as well as meals he ate and dogs he met. He captured not just the main street, but a quintessential America, both familiar and unsettling in its surface sameness. Here are ten from the series.
