This metal stock pot was used by World Central Kitchen (WCK) chefs to prepare food for people in need during hurricanes, wildfires, and other emergencies. Its final use was in Washington, D.C., during the federal government shutdown in early 2019, when federal employees were furloughed or required to work without pay. In response, WCK, led by Chef José Andrés, set up near the United States Navy Memorial to provide over 100,000 meals by February 7, 2019, for families affected by the shutdown.

As an organization, WCK is known for its rapid and flexible response to feed and support communities facing many kinds of crises, which are increasingly tied to climate disasters such as floods, hurricanes, and wildfires. Who are the team members on the ground who strategize and implement these essential services during dangerous and difficult conditions and how do they adapt their model to the particular needs of communities dealing with the aftermath of climate disasters?

On Friday, November 3 at 3:30 p.m., join WCK team members Chef Mollie Kaufmann and Laura Hayes, who have contributed to the organization's responses across the globe, as they share stories from the field during a Conversation Circle, “Feeding Communities in Crisis with World Central Kitchen.”

This is a free in-person event that will also be live-streamed. Follow the link in our bio to register.
