That history now seems as ancient as the conflicts we are now seeing played out, practically in real time. Whether or not war can ever be justified is an age-old and maybe unanswerable question, though what has always puzzled me is how clear it seems that the resolution it brings is rarely (if ever) permanent. But what is undeniably true is that war is an instrument of nations; whatever leverage it ultimately creates in the arena of policy, the living things and the civilizations that instantly become collateral damage are always blameless and profoundly, psychically, generationally harmed. Even if you as a citizen can see no other solution than war, I believe our collective humanity asks us to always put more of our weight on the side of peace.
