I love being part of @glblctzn. And yesterday I was thrilled to be able to challenge the private sector to step up and spend on climate solutions, while also highlighting the historic launch of the #AmericanClimateCorps by the Biden Administration. This is HUGE news! And can we talk about how much love wetlands are getting in this new initiative?! 💚 Thank you @potus and the entire Biden team who made this happen, and to @sunrisemvmt, @evergreenaction & everyone who relentlessly advocated for this. 👏🏽💪🏽🙌🏽✨

Plus, a little lesson in policymaking tenacity: The concept of a Civilian Climate Corps was proposed by @govinslee during his presidential campaign (#ClimateCandidate), modeled after the Civilian Conservation Corps of President. FDR’s New Deal. The concept was then picked up by Sen. @elizabethwarren in her campaign after Inslee dropped out of tue race, and then adopted by Biden after he won the primary. It then became part of the Build Back Better bill, but it was cut at the last minute from what became called the Inflation Reduction Act. How job training became partisan and controversial is beyond me! But the White House climate team never gave up on this dream to train a generation of Americans for green jobs. And neither did activists. So despite not having the 10s of billions of dollars needed to launch this program at full scale, the @The White House & @americorps pieced together a program. And hopefully, as the concept is proven, Congress will appropriate funds to ramp it up.

Special shoutout to one person who was there every step of the way — working on the Inslee, then Warren, then Biden campaigns, to Evergreen Action, and now in the White House climate office — keeping this dream alive: Maggie Thomas. @agirlnamedfrances, I am so proud to know ya, and so grateful for your creative determination. ✨

Let this be a lesson to all of us. Long game. Don’t quit on big ideas.
