There were no color lines with #RushHour and in all three films the lead actors were either Black, Asian or Hispanic (Elizabeth Pena, Roselyn Sanchez) We always tried to make the white character the Villain! Hollywood needs to continue making films with racial pride and diversity in its cast that inspire people to look beyond color and race. Movies are the USA’s biggest export of our culture that has held our flag high around the world! Rush Hour for example was number one in almost every country it was released. We should continue to create culturally diverse films that will represent this country properly for what it really is; a multi cultural and diverse nation both ethnically and racially. It was unfortunate that Rush Hour was mostly written about in the media and described as a “suprise hit” when it became at that time the biggest grossing box office hit for a comedy in history! Why was it such a suprise? Why was it not expected to be as successful as it was? Was it because it had these two ethnically diverse stars in its cast? It became the underdog that was unstoppable and proof that minorities can open a film and bring hundreds of millions of dollars to the box office without having to be white! I hope that this stereotype in our business continues to change….it will only happen as long as the studios and streamers continue to support making these types of films with diverse and multi cultural casts that will help to eliminate any prejudices about who can and cannot be successful in the film business. Nothing is impossible. Huge respect to #MikeDeLuca for his prescience in seeing the potential of Rush Hour. Producers Arthur Sarkissian, Jon Glickman, Roger Birnbaum, Jay Stern and Andy Davis for their unwavering support. Jeff Nathanson, the writer, for his brilliant rewrite of the first Rush Hour script and its subsequent sequels. The entire cast/crew!
