With 16 orbital sunrises and sunsets per day, astronauts aboard the space station have a unique vantage point showing them spectacular views of our home planet. From clouds hanging over our oceans to auroras dancing in the atmosphere and the vibrant swaths of Earth’s glow, the Expedition 69 crew captured just some of their many views aboard the orbiting laboratory in April and July of 2023.

Video Description: Two timelapse videos show views of Earth as the space station orbits roughly 260 miles above. The video begins in orbital nighttime and moves to show orbital daytime as the station passes over blue oceans and groups of clouds. One of the station’s solar arrays can be seen panning into the top right of the video as orbital daytime continues. It moves out of frame just as the sun begins to set over Earth and the video transitions as the space station soars through an orbital night. The station passes bright green auroras moving through the atmosphere of our home planet. City lights can be seen in passing, and Earth’s glow is bright green and yellow with tints of red. Another solar array is shown panning into frame to the middle left of the video. As it pans out of frame, the video transitions into the signature NASA insignia and ends.
