@sophoebelous —Nestled within a treeless valley in China’s remote Garze Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, you’ll find the world’s largest Tibetan Buddhist institution. Established in 1980, the Seda Larung Wuming Tibetan Buddhist Institute comprises several main structures and tens of thousands of small dormitories scattered across the neighboring hills. With capacity for up to 40,000 monks and nuns, the Institute welcomes practitioners from diverse Tibetan Buddhist traditions: Nyingma, Gelug, Sakya, and Kagyu. The formal training typically spans six years, while advanced levels may extend to 13 years. Regrettably, the Soda Monastery’s county isn’t accessible to international travelers and is presently closed to the general public.
