There are three species of orangutan: Sumatran, Bornean, and Tapanuli. At the Zoo, you may have seen Bornean or Sumatran. Their wise eyes don’t hide lies: orangutans are known as the thinkers and dreamers of the ape world. While most great apes like gorillas are often found socializing, orangutans prefer to ponder partnerless.

Heard of palm oil? Of course you have. It’s used to make a lot of our food, detergents, and cosmetics. Unsustainable palm oil plantations are destroying the rainforests orangutans call home. With Halloween coming up, buying candy made with sustainable palm oil is a small way you can make a big difference for our ginger giants.
