An ambush predator, the Budgett’s frog will submerge its large body in the seasonal pools of South America’s semiarid Gran Chaco, leaving only its eyes uncovered. Should insects, snails, or other appetizing critters wander within striking distance, this frog does not hesitate to act, seizing its catch in its powerful jaws and downing prey in a single gulp.
