From our basecamp in the Bugaboos we watched a relatively small fire on the mountainside across from us burn every night. In daylight it just looked like a wisp of smoke, but after dark you could see the flames. And on our last day of climbing a huge fire appeared to the north with a giant plume of smoke. And then on our bike ride back into town the next day (After a big hike out. We were very tired.) we passed another fire that had popped up right next to town. It’s been pretty surreal to see so many fires all around. Thankfully, we haven’t experienced the thick smoke that’s blanketed other parts of the country this summer.
