I can’t help but feel this World Cup is a pivotal moment for women’s sport in Australia and I’m so here for it. Upon reflection, I am so lucky to have been in one of the best sports for gender equity. You can’t quantify the impact seeing your role models has but I also don’t think it’s entirely a coincidence that after starting life out in an all boys AFL team, I switched over to athletics post-Sydney 2000. I got to grow up having visible female sporting role models and even getting to train and race with/against them before eventually being on teams with them which kind of blew my 19 year old mind. I am beyond grateful for every single trailblazing woman in sport that came before, those I shared the journey with and I’m thrilled with the new gen coming through. I jump at every chance I get to be involved with grassroots sport because even the just the possibility that I can encourage one more girl to pursue sport sets my soul alight. I can’t wait for even more girls to grow up knowing that sport is a viable option for them and to have footsteps to follow in 🏃🏻‍♀️🏋️‍♀️🏊‍♂️🤺🤽‍♀️🚴‍♀️🚣‍♀️
