Aujourd’hui, focus sur ce tableau peint par le Greco en 1571, prêté par le @museoboscocapodimonte dans le cadre de l’exposition #NaplesAParis. - 🕰️ Cette toile de Greco met en scène l’enlumineur Giulio Clovio, son ami et protecteur, qui, à partir de 1539, établi à Rome en provenance de Croatie, fut au service des Farnèse. C’est justement à son mécène, le cardinal Alexandre Farnèse, que Clovio demande en 1560 la protection pour Greco en le présentant comme un disciple méritant de Titien. - 👀 L’enlumineur est représenté à mi-corps, en soutane, tenant dans la main son chef-d’œuvre : l’Officium Verginis, le livre d’heures commandé par Alexandre Farnèse en 1537 et achevé en 1546, aujourd’hui à la Morgan Library de New York. - 👨‍🎨 Il prend place dans une pièce aux tons neutres, à peine égayée par une fenêtre ouverte sur un paysage aux arbres poussés par le vent. It was to his patron, Cardinal Alexander Farnese, that Clovio asked for Greco's protection in 1560, presenting him as a worthy disciple of Titian. - 👀 The illuminator is depicted in mid-body, wearing a cassock and holding his masterpiece in his hand: the Officium Verginis, the Book of Hours commissioned by Alexander Farnese in 1537 and completed in 1546, now in @themorganlibrary. - 🏛️ Clovio takes his place in a room of neutral tones, brightened only slightly by a window opening onto a landscape of trees blowing in the wind.
