Gego developed the "Bichitos" (1987-89), one of her final sculptural series, repurposing materials and discarded elements from earlier works. In Venezuela, bicho means an animal, critter, or, most commonly, bug.

Gego surrendered to a new way of making art, one in direct contrast to the defined geometries of her previous work.
