The "Nachi-no-Ougi Matsuri" is considered one of the three major fire festivals in Japan and has a 300-year history, with the flames of large torches dancing wildly along the approach to the festival.

The "Nachi-no-Ougi-Matsuri" is a ritual in which the twelve Kumano deities are transferred to a six-meter-high fan-shaped portable shrine, which represents Mitaki(The waterfall), and are carried from the head shrine to Mitaki, where they are welcomed by twelve large torches on the approach to Mitaki and purified with the flames of the torches.

We took our seats from 6:00 am and waited for 8 hours for the festival which started at 2:00 pm. But it was well worth the eight-hour wait.
The heat from the flames was so intense that I thought my camera would melt.

I was really lucky that I was able to get one of the four sacred cards that are thrown during the festival, as it was thrown towards me.

那智の扇祭り」は、日本三大火祭りのひとつとされ、300年の歴史を持ち、大松明の炎が参道いっぱいに乱舞します。

十二体の熊野の神々を、御滝の姿を表した高さ６ｍの十二体の扇神輿に移し、御本社より御滝へ渡御をなし、御滝の参道にて十二本の大松明でお迎えし、その炎で清める神事が「那智の扇祭り」です。

１４時から始まる祭典の為に６時から席を取り八時間待ちましたが、本当に素晴らしい祭りでした。

本当に幸運なことに祭典中に４本投げられる御札が僕に向かって投げられたので手にすることができました。
