Summers in Japan have a reputation of being hot and humid, but that doesn’t mean you cannot enjoy a summer trip. Here are some ideas for summer travels in Fukushima:

1️⃣ ‘Mugenkyo No Watashi’ is a leisurely boat ride in which you can cross the Tadami River, located in the Western area of Fukushima (reservations can be done through our website - link in stories).

2️⃣ A truly breathtaking view of Oshi Village in Kaneyama Town taken from a place called Shirifuki Pass.🏠🏘️

3️⃣ Lake Inawashiro is a great place to cool down! This photo is from the Tenjinhama area of the lake.

4️⃣ While in Fukushima, don’t forget to look up at the sky at night! This photo was taken at the Akabeko Park in Aizu-Wakamatsu City. 🌠

5️⃣ The Sannokura Plateau Sunflower Field in Kitakata typically blooms from early August! 🌻

6️⃣ The Soma Nomaoi Festival in Minamisoma City features a unique display of horseback riders. 🐴 The festival is scheduled for July 29 (Sat.), 30 (Sun.) and 31 (Mon.) this year. Tickets can be purchased on-site on the day of the event.

7️⃣ Yanaizu Town is one of the many towns and villages along the JR Tadami line. The town is a lovely place to spend a summer afternoon walking around, trying its specialty foods, or trying an ‘akabeko’ painting experience!

8️⃣ This is the Reconstruction Restaurant District in Iwaki, a city in the coastal area. Here, you will find restaurants that were affected by the disaster in 2011, as well as others that started their business here to support the area’s recovery. Simply by enjoying a meal and having a good time, your visit helps the area’s reconstruction.🍶

9️⃣ Visiting Fukushima on August 5th/6th this year? Don’t miss the Lake Numazawa Festival in Kaneyama Town (more 2023 summer event dates/info on our website!).

🔟Tsubakuro Valley in Fukushima City is a popular stop on the way to the Bandai-Azuma Skyline.

If you’ve visited during the summer before, what are your recommended spots? Let us know in the comments, and you’ll be helping other travelers make the most of their time here!
