Kid Kabuki: At the 400 year old Nagahama Hikiyama Festival, kodomo kabuki (children's kabuki), stars young boys ages five to 12. They spend their school holidays mastering kabuki performances, complete with costumes and makeup. Kabuki is traditionally only acted by males and this festival is no different, even the female roles are played by the boys. Kids review their lines on cell phones backstage before the outdoor performance.
