It is someone she is in a relationship with or is married to and or escaped from. Last night I went to a screening of the film LOVE? It is a beautifully constructed film to extraordinary music, with a wonderful narrative by my friend, Samantha Beckinsale, (pictured) @beckinsalesam who is a survivor of domestic abuse. She has written and produced it along with our mutual friend @simon_w_golding and is directed by @jasonfiggis In this important film, Sam uses her history, her pain and trauma to chart the patterns of coercive control, what it sounds like, how it happens, why people don't leave, all the details and nuances around this global issue which leaves women, children and society broken. This film will educate the world and the powers that be, about the subtleties, and the brutality of coercive control. I myself am a survivor. It isn't Just about fists and fury. it doesn't look like you think it's going to. The preconceived notions keep this problem in the dark and in the dark ages. These men are fraudsters from the get go, have a plan and have their targets and are parasitical. It is a crucial piece of film making to help the world heal. There are survivors and non survivors ( the dead) of all genders but it is staggeringly high for women. I salute you Sam and I send my love, with no question mark, to anybody out there under the 'cosh' of another human being. There is help and I know it just is not adequate at the moment but films like this will change that.
