Found in the Indo-West Pacific region, this species is shy in nature, often swimming away when approached by divers. Its movements are largely dependent on the tides: taking shelter under rocky ledges when the tide is falling, then venturing out to shallow, sandy areas in search of prey during rising tides. While this ray’s population is currently stable, the bluespotted ribbontail ray is taken by commercial fisheries as well as by recreational fishers as a game fish.
