Video by National Geographic Explorer Federico Pardo (@federicopardophoto) | Critically endangered brown spider monkeys swing from the canopy in Colombia’s Magdalena River Valley. They’re known for their long, slender limbs and a prehensile tail, which has a hairless tip and grooves to enhance grip. With 42 monkey species, Colombia has the sixth highest primate diversity on the planet. However, areas with high monkey diversity are also areas with high deforestation rates. The brown spider monkeys normally need large swaths of health forest with good connectivity.

Saving Primates (Salvando Primates) is a multimedia experience designed to connect Colombians with their country’s biodiversity and catalyze forest restoration efforts to help conserve the monkeys. In partnership with National Geographic Society (@insidenatgeo), the immersive experience opened in Bogotá with the aim of expanding to more cities in Colombia as well as greater South and North America. #EndangeredSpeciesDay
