The central tenets of our approach to shirting are perhaps most prominently seen in our Archive Madras group, the focus of today’s Warp Weft Wednesday. Each fabric in the group is based on a corresponding swatch from our archives, all of which were originally offered in the late 1970’s to mid-1980’s. . First, some technical context. While the original fabrics each have different fabric weights, textures, yarn gauges, etc., we decided to remake them as a more uniform group. Specifically, each was reproduced as a summer-weight 3oz/yd slubbed cotton, woven at one of our partner mills in Japan. Despite their distinct origins, the lighter hand and subtle texture ultimately transforms the group to something new altogether. . This tension between something old (re)made new again is what we see as the strength of these fabrics. They’re classic yet contemporary, functional yet decorative, upgraded yet consistent. In other words, there is a lot built into the Archive Madras group, and for that reason we find them incredibly wearable. . Stylistically, there’s very little you couldn’t pair with them. Light denim, pleated chinos, sport coats, nearly-destroyed sneakers… It’s all fair game. Even functionally, the Archive Madras group will perform just as well from cool spring evenings to the hottest summer days. Yeah, that’s a lot of bang for your buck. .
