Polio is devastating children’s lives in Malawi.

4-year-old Matilda contracted polio and now lives with paralysis. “At first I was heartbroken but now I have accepted the situation,” says Mariam, Matilda’s guardian.

Across the world, misinformation about vaccines against diseases like polio is a major challenge. Good hygiene, regular hand washing and childhood vaccinations can provide lasting protection against polio.

UNICEF continues the fight to end the disease once and for all, by training health workers and volunteers, organizing health campaigns and reaching the most remote areas to protect every child.
