Happy World Hyena Day Everyone!!

Spotted hyenas are smart, really smart and they live in societies with complex hierarchies. Because of this, sometimes fights break out and on this occasion Woody got a bite on her back from Geena and Nancey. The wound didn’t warrant veterinary intervention but needed daily treatment. Putting cream on the first day was challenging. Once she understood that the cream was helping her heal, she’d come to me daily for her cream application and would stand patiently and dead still until I was finished. Isn’t that just incredible! On this World Hyena Day, join me in spreading the message how cool and incredible hyenas are and how extremely important they are in the ecosystems in which they occur. As an indicator species, where hyena are extirpated from an area, you can be rest assured that the health of that system is in grave jeopardy!
