The rocks have slowly been carved out by water and wind. What’s left behind are the weathered, slender towers (some as tall as about 4,100 feet) that resemble skyscrapers.  2. It gets its name from a Tujia farmer named Xiang Dakun. In 1385, Xiang Dakun led a revolution against Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang, the founder of the Ming Dynasty, and called himself "Xiang Wang Tianzi" (meaning "Son of Heaven"), which is the traditional epithet of the Chinese emperor. They fought for 40 days before they were finally defeated. According to some legends, Xiang Dakun fought until he was forced back to the edge of the mountain’s cliff and fell to his death into the Shentang Gulf. After his death, his lover covered the cliff with flowers, which supposedly explains the flowers that cover the ledges today.   3. The Shentang Gulf (神堂湾) is a bottomless gorge shaped like a bucket. It is surrounded by bluffs, has a dark green pool at the bottom, and still remains untouched by human footprints.   4. The site became even more popular after it inspired the alien landscape of Pandora depicted in the 2009 blockbuster film Avatar.
