Characteristic feature of this fungus are the microscopically small fruiting bodies, the crystalline star-shaped or yellowish spheres, hence bicolor in its name. Resinicum bicolor is mainly found on spruce trunks. These type of fungi are the first organisms that decompose wood because they can split and utilize lignin. Together with bacteria and animal micro-organisms, they form the humus from organic waste. Origin: Northern Black Forest (Adlerhorst). Scanning Electron Microscope, 3500: 1 (when 15cm wide)
